University Hill Farms is located on Madison’s near-west side, the University Hill Farms area is surrounded by Segoe Road to the east, Rosa Road to the west, North Whitney Way to the west, Sheboygan Avenue to the north, Mineral Point Road to the south, and Regent Street to the north.
Two parks are located within the boundaries of the Hill Farms Neighborhood, which is also served by two elementary schools, one middle school, a number of churches, and the Hilldale Shopping Center, which houses the Hill Farms State Office Building. The popular and practical University Hill Farms community is located within a few minutes drive from the University, downtown, and Beltline.
On 487 acres of land that belonged to the University of Wisconsin in the past, the University Hill Farms neighborhood was created as a complete community including residential housing, schools, parks, churches, commerce, and office space. In 1953, the state legislature approved the land’s sale and established a special committee to manage its development. The University of Wisconsin and its Regents developed a plan to realize the original vision of an integrated, walkable community in collaboration with the city of Madison and planning expert Carl L. Gardner and associates.
